Bone Broth General Suggestions
Tools For Making Your Own Bone Broth: Below is a list of exactly what I use everyday to keep warm, cook and transfer to more portable means of transporting said bone broth so you can easily make your own all the while saving TONS of money. I want to really EMPHASIZE that there isn't a bone broth you can buy currently that can remotely compare to the nutrient profile of homemade bone broth from grass-fed, organic sources.
- Breville BPR700BSS The Fast Slow Pro, 6 Quart (my personal first choice and the one I use every 3 days to make my daily bone broth soups, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this product. It performs so bloody well and can't recommend it more)
- Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Multi-Functional Pressure Cooker, 6Qt/1000W (second choice for units to make your own bone broth)
- Pyrex 8 Piece Ribbed Bowl Set Including Locking Lids (Clear) (this is how I store my bone broth than reheat in the Mercola pan below)
- Mercola Ceramic Cookware (this is the healthiest cookware currently out there, I use the big pan to reheat as the boiling water is heating up the Stanley to prep for a very hot storage unit to keep my bone broth nice and warm all day long)
- Stanley Classic Vacuum Insulated Food Jar 17oz, 24oz (I use two a day 24oz filled with bone broth-rich soup, these save me an immense amount of time and planning as they make sure I get two big nutrient-dense meals everyday)
- DOWAN 3-Pack Super Soup Bowls-32 Ounce, White Fine Porcelain (my favorite bowls to eat from)
- Norpro Wide Mouth Plastic Funnel, Green (to funnel into the Stanley containers. Pour boiling water into the stanley as you reheat the soups and let sit for 10 min it'll heat the metal up so as you reheat your bone broth in a separate pan once its ready you pour out the boiling water than funnel in the soup to have hot-warm soup that lasts in those containers for literally 12-15 hours. This will save you time from reheating multiple times as well will prevent decision-fatigue. Those sensitive to histamine may not be able to do this as well.)
Organic Spices: Below is a list of what I commonly use to make my bone broth as I cook it on low for 10 hours. Most recipes have you cook bones for over 24 hours, however I have found great benefit just at the 10 hour mark. You'll extract more nutrients at 24-36 hour cook times, also you'll create more histamines so notate that if you have a sensitive histamine response.
- Frontier Co-op Organic White Onion Flakes, 1 Pound Bulk Bag (one of my favorite ones to use ^o^.)
- Frontier Co-op Organic Parsley Leaf Flakes, 1 Pound Bulk Bag (one of my favorite ones to use ^o^.)
- Starwest Botanicals Organic Ground Cumin Seed Powder, 1 Pound Bulk Spice (one of my favorite ones to use ^o^.)
- Simply Organic Rosemary Leaf Whole Certified Organic, 1.23-Ounce Container
- Simply Organic Basil Certified Organic, 0.54-Ounce Container (one of my favorite ones to use ^o^.)
- Simply Organic Paprika Ground Certified Organic, 2.96 Ounce Container (one of my favorite ones to use ^o^.)
- Simply Organic Curry Powder Certified Organic, 3-Ounce Bottle
- Simply Organic Cardamom, 2.82 Ounce
- Simply Organic Thyme Leaf Whole Certified Organic Containers - 0.78 oz
- Simply Organic Bay Leaf Certified Organic, 0.14-Ounce Container
- Simply Organic Pumpkin Spice Organic, 1.94 Ounce
- Simply Organic Cinnamon Sticks, 1.13 Ounce
Bone Broth Books: Below is a list of incredible resources for the why and how to make bone broths along with some troubleshooting for things like histamine response, sensitivity to glutamate, etc.
- Nourishing Broth: An Old-Fashioned Remedy for the Modern World (one of the very best books you could read on the subject)
- Dr. Kellyann's Bone Broth Diet: Lose Up to 15 Pounds, 4 Inches--and Your Wrinkles!--in Just 21 Days (a great presentation on the benefits of bone broth)
- Dr. Kellyann's Bone Broth Cookbook: 125 Recipes to Help You Lose Pounds, Inches, and Wrinkles (the first place I would recommend to those interested in bone broth on bone broth fueled by endless recipes)
- The Bone Broth Miracle: How an Ancient Remedy Can Improve Health, Fight Aging, and Boost Beauty (another great resource)
Bone Broth/Collagen/Gelatin Articles: Below is a list of incredible resources for articles that further go in-depth regarding the benefits, pitfalls and science of consuming 100% grass-fed sourced bone broth, collagen and gelatin regularly.
- 10 Reasons to Eat More Collagen (Mark Sisson is one of the originals regarding acculturating the nation into ancestral diets)
- What's the Difference Between Collagen & Gelatin? (Wellness Mama lays it out nicely ^_^.)
- Is Collagen the Secret to a Stronger Body? (a good read for runners regarding collagen use to repair the wear & tear)
- Do you suffer from histamine intolerance? (a great article detailing what to do if you have a histamine intolerance)
- Bone Broth and MSG: What You Need To Know Now (a good article detailing the glutamate sensitivity issue)
Additional Tips: Below is a list of a few supplements that fall into this category of nose-tail eating to enrich your body's access to nutrient-rich sources of ancestral foods.
- Great Lakes Gelatin, Certified Paleo Friendly, Keto Certified, Collagen Hydrolysate, Peptides, Pasture-Raised Grass-Fed (this and Vital Proteins are my current two favorite but again these are no substitutes for homemade bone broth, they make a great addition to get highly bioavailable protein without wreaking havoc on your kidneys due to the amino acid profile)
- Vital Proteins Pasture-Raised, Grass-Fed Collagen Peptides (great overall protein source for nearly anyone, especially those with compromised guts or recovering from animal-deficient diets)
- Perfect Desiccated Liver - Grass Fed Undefatted Argentine Beef Liver (great for anyone compromised with weakness, mental tiredness, fatigue, etc. Fantastic source of b vitamins, bioavailable iron, etc. For very compromised people they ought to work towards 8-12 caps a day for a bottle or two divided throughout the day but as with anything, start with 2 than every 2 days add another 2 until you get around 8-12 caps as that's approximately when you'll feel the difference in about a month. Those Vatta types may notice a difference earlier on with lower doses.)
- Colostrum-LD Powder 16oz with Proprietary Liposomal Delivery (LD) Technology (if you don't have a dairy allergy or sensitivity this is an incredible product I recommend to immune-compromised individuals)
