What is fascia and why is it important?
Fascia is connective tissue organized as an interconnected 3D network. It wraps around every cell, tissue and organ. Think of it like a web that supports the bones, muscles, etc. Without it the body would fall apart. It holds the bones in place as opposed to the bones holding the muscles and fascia in place.

Chronic pain is often the result of imbalances of connective tissue that needs to unwind and be melted down in order to return range of motion and pain-free living.

Visit this page to learn more about fascia and it's role in chronic pain and postural alignment.

                                                                              Common Causes for Low-Back Pain
As people age, bone strength and muscle elasticity and tone tend to decrease. The discs begin to lose fluid and flexibility, which decreases their ability to cushion the vertebrae. Pain can occur when, for example, someone lifts something too heavy or overstretches, causing a sprain, strain, or spasm in one of the muscles or ligaments in the back. If the spine becomes overly strained or compressed, a disc may rupture or bulge outward. This rupture may put pressure on one of the more than 50 nerves rooted to the spinal cord that control body movements and transmit signals from the body to the brain. When these nerve roots become compressed or irritated, back pain results. Some of the leading causes of low-back pain are as follows:

The following info is from the following website.

                                                                              1.    Lumbar strain (acute, chronic)
                                                                              2.    Nerve irritation (the nerves of the lumbar spine can be irritated by mechanical pressure (impingement) by bone or other tissues . .)
                                                                              3.    Lumbar radiculopathy (lumbar radiculopathy is nerve irritation that is caused by damage to the discs between the vertebrae.)
                                                                              4.    Bony encroachment (any condition that results in movement or growth of the vertebrae of the lumbar spine can limit the space (encroachment) . .)
                                                                              5.    Bone and joint conditions (bone and joint conditions that lead to low back pain include those existing from birth (congenital), those that result . .)

                                                                              8.    Ovary problems (ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and endometriosis not infrequently cause low back pain. Precise diagnosis can require . .)
                                                                              9.    Tumors (low back pain can be caused by tumors, either benign or malignant, that originate in the bone of the spine or pelvis and spinal cord . .)

Common causes for chronic low-back strain:

                                                                              1.    Desk/Computer work (sitting too long not only compresses the lumbar discs but also shortens the psoas muscles which adds anterior stress to discs)
                                                                              2.    Picking up items without proper body mechanics (see page for proper mechanics)
                                                                              3.    Not strengthening core muscles (examples may not be ideal for you: Cats & Dogs, Abdominal E-Crunches, Pelvic Tilts, etc.)
                                                                              4.    Not stretching posterior line of fascia & psoas (just examples: Static Back Stretch, Supine Groin Stretch, Downward Dog, Runner's Stretch, etc.)
                                                                              5.    Twisting the spine in odd ways
                                                                              6.    Sleeping on a mattress that doesn't support the body optimally
(natural latex is our highest recommendation for the ideal mattress)
                                                                              7.    Routinely carrying bags, backpacks, weights, etc. for long periods of time
                                                                              8.    Bending over routinely to work (yard-work, manual labor, weeding, etc.)

The good news is the majority of back pain conditions come from chronic or acute strain and can be reversed & prevented through properly applied manual therapies and self-care exercises. Many of us experience chronic strain by misuse of body mechanics through our daily actions. These day-to-day activities put strain on the psoas, iliacus, quadratus lumborum, erector spinae, piriformis, gluetal's, hamstrings & multifidus muscles along with the posterior and anterior line of fascia. In myofascial treatments we address these two lines and the fascia profunda within some of the individual muscles as well. These releases allow your spine to move back in alignment with less effort. This along with self-care e-cises and increasing your awareness about your body in day-to-day activities will put you on that edge of optimal alignment which will help relieve you of pain.

If you are experiencing a ruptured disc or have begun to develop arthritis you can still feel improvement and significant reduction in pain so it isn't inhibiting you from living life more completely. We utilize the Egoscue Method for self-care that when done daily can lead to very significant improvement that some give up any hope of experiencing until they feel the difference.

                                                                              What's a Freedom Clinic?
A Freedom Clinic is an opportunity to explore & experiment to deepen awareness & improve function.
It is an opportunity to experience a 1 hour session of myofascial release therapy (approx. 15 minutes of assessment and 45 minutes of treatment) for only $40 which is half the pro-rate. We hold Freedom Clinics on specific dates and we provide 9 clinical fascial sessions on this day. To reserve your clinical session fill-in the form below. This is clinical bodywork and is given at a lower rate to introduce you to the functionality of fascial release. The following is what we require for you to participate in one of our clinics.

                                                                              • We provide you with a plan that ranges from 5-10 sessions over the course of 1-3 months in order to address your fascial condition.
                                                                              • We require you to wear fitted sports gear (or underwear) that gives the practitioner access to most of your skin as lotion is rarely used.
                                                                              • We require you to fill this form out in full so that you have it ready upon entering the clinic. This is a time saving measure.
                                                                              • We recommend programming our phone number (208) 870-9753 into your cell phone so when we call you know who it is.
                                                                              • We require down payment over either Pay Pal below or over the phone using Square credit/debit card processing
                                                                              • We need to stick to a strict time schedule for these sessions so if your late it will cut into your time.

Mind you this is a cadaver and we don't really know if these fascial restrictions occur like this in living organisms, however it gives us some insight into a possible cause. The 2nd video is a collection of fascia research speakers.
